After a succession of draws, New Santos were in dire need of a win against relegation strugglers St Lukes II in order to ensure that they were not dragged into the relegation fight.

The match was delayed by 30 minutes, but when it eventually began, it was Santos' who came out of the blocks the quickest and most eager and had a couple of early opportunities to take the lead before St Lukes were awarded a penalty for a mis-timed tackle in the area.  Santos were let off lightly as St Lukes' penalty taker scuffed his shot wide from 12 yards.

St Lukes were made to regret their penalty miss as it turned out to be one of very few chances they created.  New Santos took the lead when in-form striker Joe Franklin scored a typical poachers goal and sent Santos into the half time break a goal to the good.

Much like the first, Santos started quicker in the second half and were soon rewarded when full-back Niall Cluskey rose highest at the back post to nod in a rare goal for the defender.  The goal signaled the opening of the flood gates, and Joe Franklin scored another typically opportunistic goal to make it 3-0 and put the game beyond doubt.  When Santos skipper Martin Magee limped off, he was replaced by David Dougan who made an instant impact in the game, setting up Anthony McGreevy within a minute of coming on only for the keeper to save well from McGreevys effort.  Dougan then notched his second for the club finishing well from a flick on from Joe Franklin to make it four for Santos.  The scoreline was further increased in the last minute when substitute Ciaran Finnerty weak shot from 30 yards somehow crept under St Lukes' possibly intoxicated goalkeeper.

The win provided a much needed confidence boost for Santos as well as going some way to guaranteeing staying in the first division.
