New Santos vs St Malachys OB
Strangford Avenue, 20th Feb 2010, 2pm
Looking to bounce back after recent poor results, Santos faced Premier Division St Malachys in the second round of the Nelson Cup.
After a scrappy opening period, Santos took the lead after 15 minutes when Paul Barr finished into the roof of the net after a goalmouth scramble.
The lead didn't last long as St Malachys equalised with a fine header from a free-kick. Both sides then came very close to taking the lead. Paddy O'Reilly headed over from 6 yards following a fine cross from Joe Magee, while at the other end, Conor Chambers cleared another header of the line to keep the scores level at half time.
Half-time: New Santos 1-1 St Malachys OB
The first 15 minutes of the second half produced nothing of note from other side. On 60 minutes, Santos took the lead when Gareth Cullens excellent deep cross was met by McGreevy who headed past the keeper.
From there however, Santos collapsed. The Santos defence failed to cope with the striker who opened the scoring and he capitilised on some poor defending on numerous occasions, finding the net on 4 occasions. Another goal from St Malachys rounded off a deserved win and sent Santos crashing out of the cup.
