Ardoyne WMC II vs New Santos

In the final match of 2009, Santos faced an Ardoyne side who they had defeated in a controversial game earlier in the season.

It was an close affair early on with both defences lacking organisation. Ardoyne pressured New Santos but failed to test JP Byrne with their best chance after their striker missed from 6 yards out under pressure from David Dougan. Santos punished Ardoyne when David Harrigan beat 2 players to get to the byline and pulled the ball back for Paddy O'Reilly to tap in.

On 25 minutes Martin Magee hit the post when one on one with the keeper and soon after Paddy O'Reilly slotted home Kieran Seawards through ball to get his second of the game.

Despite Ardoyne having a relatively equal share of the possession they still couldn't muster an efforts of note. It was almost 3-0 before the break when O'Reilly chipped the keeper but his shot clipped of the bar.

Half-time: Ardoyne WMC II 0-2 New Santos

Despite the lead both players and Manager were not happy with Santos' performance in the first half and came out in the second looking improved.

On 60 minutes, Stevie Copeland created danger in the box with his cross from the left and Anthony McGreevy finished a loose ball to put Santos 3 up. To their credit, Ardoyne continued to battle hard and kept the pressure on Santos.

Despite their persistance it took a referreeing error for Ardoyne to equalise as their striker finished a ball over the top and despite being several yards offside, the goal was allowed to stand. Any hopes of an immediate comeback were dashed when Martin Magee scored with an excellent looping shot to make it 4-1.

Ardoyne again kept battling and got a consolation goal on 85 minutes as they piled forward. Santos held out until the end to keep their unbeaten league record in tact going in 2010.
