    New Santos vs Ardoyne WMC II

With both teams having 100% records early on, Santos faced an Ardoyne string at Strangord Avenue with a win enough to put either team top of the league.

From the whistle Ardoyne got on top of Santos and dominated early precedings with a succession of corners. Their dominince was rewarded after 15 minutes when David Dougan slipped and allowed the Ardoyne striker to round JP Byrne and put Ardoyne 1-0 up. Soon later it was two as Ardoyne again took advantage of poor Santos defending.

It took 35 minutes for Santos to assert any sort of pressure on the Ardoyne defence and before half time, Kevin Carsons clearance made its way through for Tony McGreevy to slot past the onrushing keeper and Santos pulled a goal back.

After some strong words from manager Ronan Doherty, Santos came out the second half a different side. Early on Santos were denied by a couple of fine saves from the Ardoyne keeper who then also foiled Martin Magee with a double save.

Santos kept knocking at the Ardoyne goal and got a deserved equaliser when McGreevy bundled the ball across the line from a corner. 5 minutes later, Santos were awarded a debatable penalty for a push on Paddy Moore in the Ardoyne penalty area. Martin Magees effort was saved by the in form Ardoyne keeper whose team felt justice was served. Tempers flared after the penalty and Ardoyne were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men as a player was let off with a series of pushes.

With 10 minutes left, Santos got the goal their pressure deserved as Martin Magees well worked free kick fed Kieran Seaward who blasted into the top corner from 18 yards. It was a nervy finish for Santos but they held on while also nearly scoring again as Magees free kick looked destined for the net before the Ardoyne keeper produced one more great save.
