New Santos vs Colin Valley
On a run that saw them win 2 and draw 1 of their last 3 games, Santos went into the game versus Colin Valley with confidence as high as it had been during the season. On a day were many matches were called off across the country, both teams braved the hurricane-esque conditions.
Within 15 minutes, Colin Valley took the lead with a rifled 25 yard shot which flew into the top corner. The opening period was a fiery affair which saw two Colin Valley players booked for late tackles. From the second New Santos free kick, Martin Magee lofted a ball into the box which deflected of the head of a Colin Valley defender to give New Santos an equaliser.
Neither side created much on a day were good football was difficult and the sides went into the break one apiece.
Half-time: New Santos 1-1 Colin Valley
As the wind picked up in the second half and the rain got even more treacherous, Santos were faced with a difficult task playing into the wind. They took the lead through a dubious penalty after Martin Magee was kicked in the face while stooping for the ball. The captain brushed himself off and slotted the penalty into the net to give Santos a 2-1 lead.
The penalty turned out to be a turning point however as Colin Valley upped the pressure with the aid of the wind. They equalised soon after going behind through a defensive calamity between Joe and Martin Magee let their striker in to score. They doubled their lead with 20 minutes left following a well worked move down the left which resulted in JP Byrne having to make a good save down to his right, but the ball broke loose and Judge notched his second of the game for Colin Valley.
With Santos deflated, Colin Valley extended their lead after some tidy football around the Santos box led to a through ball for Judge to complete his hat trick with a nice finish.
